Medical Trauma & Health Anxiety Therapy in California

A difficult medical experience can stay with you after an appointment or hospital stay is over. You may feel on edge before seeing a doctor, have trouble trusting your body, or find that health concerns take up more of your day than you want.

I'm Grace Davis, LCSW. I offer online therapy for California adults navigating medical stress, distressing healthcare experiences, and anxiety about their health.

When healthcare experiences feel hard to move past

You may have been through a frightening diagnosis, painful procedure, unexpected hospitalization, or a time when you felt unheard. Even when other people tell you that everything is fine now, you might still feel unsettled.

We can make space for your experience without rushing you to move on. You decide what you are ready to discuss, and we will work at a pace that feels manageable.

Making room for health concerns without getting lost in worry

Perhaps you spend a lot of time checking symptoms, searching online, or asking for reassurance, but the relief does not last. You might also avoid appointments because you are afraid of what you will hear. Health anxiety can exist alongside a diagnosed medical condition.

In therapy, we can explore how you respond to uncertainty and what happens when fear takes over. We can work on practical ways to step back from repeated checking, respond to distress, and return attention to your daily life while following appropriate medical guidance.

Feeling more prepared for appointments

Our work may include identifying what makes medical visits difficult, practicing ways to steady yourself, writing down questions, and communicating your needs. We can also talk about asking a trusted person for support and giving yourself time to recover emotionally after stressful care.

Your health concerns deserve thoughtful medical evaluation. Therapy supports the emotional side of your experience and works alongside your healthcare.

A collaborative approach

My background includes hospital trauma team work, and I understand that healthcare can bring up fear, vulnerability, and loss of control. I bring a warm, practical approach and use CBT and other strategies tailored to your needs. We will agree on goals and check in about what is helping.

If you are also living with ongoing pain, you can learn more about therapy for chronic pain and fibromyalgia. For broader worry and overthinking, visit my anxiety therapy page.

Getting started with online therapy

I offer video sessions for adults who are physically in California during appointments. We will talk about what brought you in, what you would like to change, and whether we are a good fit. You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out.
